Elizabeth M. Young was selected for inclusion in the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers, a recognition achieved by less than five percent of women lawyers, and was selected as one of "New York's Women Leaders in the Law 2012" by New York Magazine and as one of "New York City's Top Women Lawyers" by Avenue Magazine. She practices in the areas of products liability and mass tort litigation and serves as lead counsel for defendants in toxic tort litigation, including asbestos litigation, in state court throughout New York and in federal court.
She achieved an appellate decision unanimously affirming summary judgment for a premises owner in the first asbestos case under the New York Labor Law. She has also been extensively involved as a member of the firm’s defense team for the World Trade Center Disaster Site Litigation in the Southern District of New York, handling the defense of numerous subcontractors sued in over 10,000 cases. Her experience also includes commercial and class action defense litigation.
Ms. Young is admitted to practice in New York, the District of Columbia, the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. She received an A.B. degree in Political Science from Vassar College and a J.D. degree from Fordham University School of Law.
Ms. Young is a member of several bar associations and has been a member of the Committee on State Courts of Superior Jurisdiction, the Tort Litigation Committee, the Product Liability Committee, and the Litigation Committee of the New York City Bar Association. She is also a member of the faculty of the City Bar Center for Continuing Legal Education and has taught litigation skills workshops and a products liability course.
